Imaginary Friend

Magic Pony by Edwin McLean is a song about classic childhood.  It tells the story of a child with his or her imaginary friend: a magic pony.  He's only 2 feet tall, and comes when he's called.  It doesn't matter what other people say, this little pony is real.

This song is quick; trotting along.  In it you will find:
4/4
Key of C
quarter, half, dotted half, and whole notes and rests.
Middle C Position, one hand movement at the end.
slur, staccato, mf, mp, diminuendo, poco rit,

This song is only 6 lines long and in ABA format.  It is very engaging, yet accessible to younger students.

Here's a video of a 5 year old playing this piece.  (Not my student or recording.)  That's pretty impressive.
