Grand Melody 3

Grand Solos for Piano by Melody Bober is full of all sorts of fun pieces!

Continuing with her series, Melody has written fun pieces that teach and reinforce a variety of concepts in a variety of keys and styles.  You can look inside the book here.  There are jazz and blues influences, toccata-type pieces, smooth showy pieces, spooky pieces.  They're all here.

Students breaking out of the "my hands belong here" idea may find this book challenging because there are several 8va jumps, as well as moving to a new "position." These books have been great to stretch my students, because though they like to comfort of staying in a position they know, they genuinely like these pieces.  This book has pushed them to try new things.

Many of these songs have a a repetitive form, such as ABA, which I find greatly helpful.  Students become less overwhelmed by "black dot shock" if they recognize similar sections.  Also, none of these songs is longer than 2 pages, which is also helpful in reducing stress.

Titles Include: (links will take you to a youTube video of the piece.  Not my students or videos.)
The Camel's Tale  - poor video quality, but you can hear the song
