Recitals for All Seasons

In Recital Throughout the Year Volume 1 Book 2 is a great continuation of this series.  Helen Marlais has done it again.

There's a great variety of pieces, for recitals all throughout the year, as the title states.  And because these pieces are meant to be motivating and fun, they really do work well for recitals.  This entire series is carefully graded to ensure that students are choosing pieces appropriate for them.

This book includes a song for Halloween, Christmas, and Fourth of July Recitals, as well as a lyrical solo, classical theme arrangements and a showpiece solo.  There is a note to students from Helen Marlais with practice and recital advice.  The book also includes a CD of the pieces.

Inside this book you will find:
(I've linked to videos if I could find them.)
Cornflower Air by Christopher Goldston
Highland Jig by Mary Leaf
The Dirty Dish Rag by Kevin Olson (Equal Part Duet)
Theme from Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky arr. Kevin Olson (optional duet)
Vocalise Op. 32, No. 14 by Rachmaninoff, arr. Timothy Brown (optional duet)
Halloween Sounds by Elizabeth Greenleaf
Jingle Bells arr Edwin McLean (optional duet)
Good King Wenceslas arr. Edwin McLean (optional duet)
Yankee Doodle Boy arr. Melody Bober (optional duet)

Listed on page 4 are the concepts reinforced in this book:
In addition to basic notes (quarter, half, dotted half, and whole notes) their corresponding rests are also used.
Students play tied notes, legato and staccato articulations, accents, upbeats, a few chords, blocked intervals, and five-finger hand positions.
Students continue to experience movement up and down the keyboard, and there is continuing use of the pedal to create a big sound.
Pieces reinforce basic musical terminology and symbols such as crescendo, decrescendo, ritardando, fermata, mf, mp, forte, piano, loco, and D.C. al fine.
Basic keys - C, G, & F major; A and D minor (written using accidentals instead of key signatures.)

This book & CD combination can be found at Sheet Music Plus for $6.95.
