A Dozen Songs

Once again Carolyn Miller has arranged several broadway, popular, and movie songs to accompany the  Dozen A Day Exercise Series.  These ten songs coordinate with the Preparatory Level, two for each of the five groups of a dozen exercises.  There are also optional teacher accompaniments.  Look inside here.

To see the skills taught in the Preparatory book, look here.

Inside this Songbook, you will find:
Heart and Soul
Little April Shower
The Way You Look Tonight
Yellow Submarine
Part of Your World
Getting to Know You
The Surrey with the Fringe on Top
Swinging on a Star
The Bare Necessities
Do-Re-Mi

These pieces progress in difficulty, as do the exercises in the coordinating book.    Though there are not too many notes, there are quite a few finger changes, which makes these songs more difficult than they appear at first.  However, if you are pairing it with the technique book, many of these finger movements will have been practiced and therefore will not be too foreign to the student.

This book would be a great way to reinforce finger movement and other technique in a fun and engaging way.  Some of the other technique would be: grace notes, legato ending in staccato, and others.
