...is not just for kids!
Phillip Keveren has arranged Disney Songs for Classical Piano. I'm impressed. This is a Late Intermediate/ Early advanced book. It's filled with Disney Pieces paired with the classical influence of a particular composer or piece.
Phillip Keveren states:
"Music is an inseparable part of the magic that is Disney. These wonderful songs have charmed the young and young-at-heart for generations.
Classical models influenced all of the arrangements in this collection. In some cases, direct quotations from the referenced work are used."
There is a two page spread explaining which piece/composer influenced each song.
Included in the book are:
Beauty and the Beast - Rachmaninoff
Can You Feel the Love Tonight - "To A Wild Rose" by Edward MacDowell
Chim Chim Cher-ee - Chopin
Colors of the Wind - "Arabesque #1" by Debussy
A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes - Schumann
God Help the Outcasts - Gymnopedie
I'm Late - "Toccata" by Khachaturian
It's a Small World "Marcia alla Turca" by Beethoven
Little April Shower - Kabalevsky
Once Upon a Dream - Tchaikovsky
Scales and Arpeggios - Mozart
Second Star to the Right - "Reverie" by Debussy
So this Is Love - Impromptu, Opus 90, No. 2" by Schubert
Under the Sea - Scott Joplin
You'll Be In My Heart - Tango by Albeniz
These songs are well-written, though I wouldn't recommend them to any less than a dedicated Late Intermediate student. These are tough, and require quite a bit of technique, finger dexterity, and practice before playing. You can look inside here. (Currently they have an 2 pages of songs available and extra page of guitar chords - this is not actually in the book.)
Quick Look
Keys: Db, Eb, G, a minor, c minor, e minor, C, D, b minor, Bb, E, F,
Notes: Triplet, Sextuplet, dotted eighth sixteenth, sixteenth, thirty second,
3 note chords, 4 note chords, grace notes, chromatic passages, finger stretches & crossovers, high speeds, key changes, syncopation, eighth notes against triplets,
I personally don't have any students who are ready to attempt this for quite a while, but I'm working my way though it. I am an unashamed Disney lover, and because I also enjoy classical piano, this is a winner in my book.
This book is available at Sheet Music Plus for $14.99.
Here's the only video I could find of songs from this book. It gives you a good idea regarding the difficulty level of the pieces. They are quite impressive. UPDATE: Unfortunately it looks like this video was removed by the user. Sorry.
