Celebrated Virtuosic Solos Book 1 by Robert Vandall is a great prescription for the late elementary student that is bored, struggling with method books, needs a recital piece, or just plain wants a break from what they've been working on.
All 8 of these pieces range from "Fast and Light" to "Lively" to "Quickly." This is perfect for that student who just won't slow down.
As with most books, you'll find the pieces to be about the same difficulty, but some are more accessible than others. You'll find chords, as well as hand movements in all of these songs. Nimble Fingers and Power Walk use lower ledger lines, as well as chords in both hands with lots of movement. Bouncing Along with its 8va and 4 note right hand chords looks quite impressive.
If you have a student who has just begun a Level 2 method book, Jumping Jacks might be perfect. The A section is in G position and the B Section is in C Position. The A Section comes back to close. Sidewalk Games starts out in C position alternating the I and V7 chords in the right hand. The B section includes more movement, then the A section comes back. Rowdy only includes one brief hand movement for a few measures, but otherwise parks itself in D position, though the left hand is in lower D position.
