Mini Disney

We are getting ready for an "At the Movies" theme recital, so I was excited to order some new books that feature songs from the movies.

The Tagline on this book is "Delightful Disney Songs for the Earliest Beginner."  Glenda Austin does a great job arranging recognizable melodies in a way that you can still recognize them!  Included for each song is also an optional teacher accompaniment as well as a picture from the movie.  I appreciate how the teacher part is on the left and the student on the right, much like actual duet music.

"Teaching Little Fingers to Play" is part of the John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano.  This course combines the rote and note approach, which is evident in these songs.  Most of these songs are only two pages, and only include the chorus of the song.  They are a good length for the beginning student. There are helpful hints on the teacher page such as "Be aware that the 5th finger of the L.H. stretches down to a low D."

If you use a more reading-based method and expect your students to read the music, be prepared to explain different rhythms, symbols, and key signatures.  I'm sure the earliest beginner could play these pieces if a combination rote/note approach is used, but if you are using a reading approach, the student should be a little bit more advanced, (say, more elementary than early elementary). You can look inside and listen here.

Can You Feel The Love Tonight
Candle on the Water
You'll Be In My Heart
God Help the Outcasts
