Hair Cut

It's the perfect, playful piece for April Fools! (And that's no joke.)

Johnny, Get Your Hair Cut  by Lynn Freeman Olson is a whimsical piece.  It's so easy to visualize a story of a young man who is told by his mother, his grandmother, and his father that he needs to get his hair cut, though he doesn't want to.

This is not a piece I've seen around a lot.  It's available from several websites, but I've not been able to find any views inside or youtube recordings.  That's a shame, because this piece is just so much fun!  Perhaps it's not your typical showy piece, but it is definitely playful.

Johnny uses a recurring theme with several variations, including accidentals, different octaves, and elongating the melody.  Each variety brings to my mind another family member admonishing Johnny to get his hair cut.  You can tell by the "na-na-na-na-boo-boo" counter melody that Johnny doesn't like the idea.
